For those who don’t regularly follow FP but appreciate Felton’s investigative journalism (die, Goodyear, die), you should know he’s moving on to Consumer Reports.

Of all the writers who hate for-profit journalism, only Ryan leaves for nonprofit journalism.

I like his work, when I read over there.
I am now consumed with a need to know if Alanis’s pizza sins are actually worse than mine.

You’re not saying that GMG writers are hypocrites, are you?

That’s...pretty bad. But I gave her the answer. Wine. If you can pair wine with a food, it must be a bona fide meal. Problem solved.

I swore off Goodyear after reading that. Didn’t know their shady shit had been going on for years. Good thing I’ve never had Goodyears on any of my cars ever, so I didn’t end up giving them my money inadvertently.
Of course, I do wish I could vote with my wallet with more choices available in other products but sometimes it’s unavoidable.

This assumes there are ample jobs available in non-profit automotive journalism/entertainment that said writers are passing on, w hich I don’t think is true. CR has a very different bent than the enthusiast press, and I don’t CR is very interested in hiring someone like Raph or even Stef.
On a more general level, I don’t think participation in a system invalidates any criticism you have of that system, especially if participating is how you put food on your table.

I don’t think that’s true. J obs die out all the time. Sometimes the market contracts. Off the top of my head, I can name at least three for-profit automotive enthusiast websites/publications. I can’t name any not-for-profit ones. Can you?
Even if your assertions were true — which you’ve provided no argument for — people’s criticisms about their jobs or employers shouldn’t be dismissed because they could theoretically find another job. Sometimes people like most of their job, but dislike certain aspects. Should they not try to improve them?
